General Announcements
Arrest Report
Number of arrests since the last CAPS meeting:
- Beat 1431: 23 arrests and 12 Contact Cards/Investigatory Stops

- Burglary
- 2000 block of N. Milwaukee – Offender hid inside a store until it closed and the employees were gone. Officers responded to a burglar alarm and discovered offender inside the store. Offender had moved several items by the store's safe.
- Possession of a Stolen Vehicle
- 2500 block of N. Western – Offender was observed driving a vehicle that had been reported stolen. Offender placed in custody.

- 1900 block of W. Fullerton – Offender threatened his coworker with a knife during a verbal altercation
- Unlawful Possession of a Handgun – Offender entered a business with a handgun and created a disturbance. Victim called 911. Officers responded, located offender, and discovered her to be in possession of a handgun.

Section Reports
SECTION 1 (Borders: California, Milwaukee, Armitage)
1) PO Chavez provided an update on the problem property on the 2700 block of W. Julia Court. This property continues to be a nuisance, however, the owner of the building was brought into the 14th District Police Station to discuss the challenges and is in the process of evicting the tenants. Residents in attendance shared that they are very appreciative of the continued attention and response from the 14th District Police. Friday and Saturday nights continue to be the problem evenings at this property.
2) The known problem property on the 2100 block of Bingham has been "quiet" since gunshots were reportedly fired at the address a few months ago. PO Chavez strongly urged residents to call 911 for any criminal (or potentially criminal) activities observed at this location. PO Chavez also shared that a female individual has been identified as a link between this problem property and the one on the 2700 block of W. Julia.
3) A resident reported problems with loud, noisy neighbors near the California EL station lasting late into the evening. The resident contacted the landlord/management company and asked for additional suggestions. Officers suggested calling 911, particularly late at night.

SECTION 2 (Borders: Rockwell, Lyndale, Western, Milwaukee)
1) Congress Pizza – No representatives from Congress Pizza were present at this CAPS meeting.
2) A representative from Concord Music Hall was in attendance.

SECTION 3 (Borders: Rockwell, Fullerton, Western, Lyndale)
1) A resident reported encountering 3 middle school age kids, 2 Hispanic and 1 Black, riding bikes on the sidewalk at Western and Belden swerving into people and harassing them by yelling "fight me, fight me, fight me" while throwing rocks. This has occurred on more than one occasion over the course of 2 weeks in Mid-April. Both incidents happened around 5pm. Additional residents reported seeing these kids and similar behavior near the Walgreens at Milwaukee and Armitage, threatening individuals entering the store and then waiting to follow them as they left. They were also threatening customers at the Cloud Vapor Lounge on Western. One of the kids, identified as slightly overweight and Hispanic, acts as the "ringleader" to the other boys. The resident filed a police report and residents are urged to call 911 if these kids are seen, and if possible, take pictures of them to share with the 14th District CAPS office.action: Residents are strongly urged to call 911 to report gang activity and 311 for graffiti.
SECTION 4 (Borders: California, Fullerton, Rockwell, Milwaukee)
1) Kids and adults have been playing basketball at the Goethe Elementary School playlot beyond curfew and late into the evening/early morning. Residents have been calling 911 to address this issue. A resident also requested that hours of the playground be clearly posted in the area, possibly even on the basketball hoop backboards for better visibility.
2) Another resident shared that potential drug exchanges have been observed outside near the corner of Washtenaw and Belden, along Talman near Medill and inside the Goethe Elementary School playlot during the evenings. PO Chavez requested further information of the individuals and activities observed to followup on the matter.

SECTION 6 (Borders: Rockwell, Logan Boulevard, Western, Fullerton)
1) There was an incident of unlawful entry (reported via email) on the 2400 block of Artesian the evening of May 17th. Snippet from original email, "The family was home and most members were in bed except for the husband who was up late working in the basement. He left the back door open and the light was on. Someone entered their home and stole a laptop, iPad and two sets of car keys. Thankfully there was no direct confrontation."
A case report was made, and Liz Rios and PO Chavez encouraged people to not leave doors unlocked while home to help avoid these security risks. A resident also reported that this family decided to take the wheels off of their cars until their locks were changed to deter the criminals from returning and stealing them.
