General Announcements
The 14th District is holding a Food Drive all year long. Food and hygiene products can be dropped off at the 14th District Police Station (2150 N. California Ave.) or at your next Beat Meeting.

National Night Out for the 14th District will be Tuesday, August 4th from 5pm - 8pm in the 14th District Police Station parking lot, 2150 N. California Ave.
The Back to School Health and Resource Fair will take place Saturday, August 22nd from 11am - 2pm at Avondale-Logandale Elementary School, 3212 W. George Street. For more information, contact Alderman Rosa's office: 773-887-3772 or email Monica Trevino at monica@aldermancarlosrosa.org.
Community Alert – Attempted Kidnapping
On July 13th, 2015, at approximately 7:20am, two juveniles, male and female were victims to an attempted kidnapping. The offender is described as a white Hispanic male, 20-30 years old, 5'9" - 6'02" and 190 - 210 pounds, clean-shaven, with dark curly hair, wearing a black and white Adidas jacket and black construction boots. The vehicle is described as a white work van with no side windows with a large dent on the front passenger side.

What you can do:
  • Call 911 to report any suspicious persons or activity
  • Walk in groups
  • Be aware of your surroundings
  • Travel in well-lit and populated areas

Court Advocacy Reports
Court advocates have been following cases regarding:
  1. July 8th court hearing for Victor Torres – apprehended after a foot chase at Los Recuerdos, 2315 W. Fullerton Ave, on Sept 6, 2014 after allegedly shooting at a car of gang-bangers. Torres wanted to file a motion to void his arrest, however, the court proceedings were not prepared for this request. Therefore, there will be a new session on July 29th after they receive more information of the shooting from police officers who were involved in the arrest. Torres is currently out of jail on bond.

Arrest Report
Number of arrests since the last CAPS meeting:
  • Beat 1431: 13 arrests and 64 "contact cards" written
    • Impact Arrests
      • 2100 Milwaukee - 2 arrests for criminal trespass to property involving a stolen vehicle.
      • 2200 Milwaukee - stolen bike recovered - PO Chavez strongly urged residents to securely lock bikes on the street as well as on car bike racks if you leave them unattended.
      • 3 narcotics related arrests and 2 warrant arrests
  • Beat 1432: 22 arrests and 59 "contact cards" written
    • Impact Arrests
      •  2400 block of N. Elston, State Police pulled over a vehicle for speeding and recovered 1300 grams of cannabis ($24K street value) and a firearm.
      • 1800 block W. Webster, criminal caught stealing a bike
      • Holstein Park, public indecency arrest, a homeless individual was masturbating in the park - parents of children playing in the park called 911 that led to the arrest.

Section Reports
SECTION 1 (Borders: California, Milwaukee, Armitage)
1) There were no representatives from the new Boulevard Veterinary, at 2740 W. Armitage Ave near California, to address reported problems with people loitering, drinking and urinating in the parking lot they have behind their building. SGT Reyes reported that the police did not have many calls for service for that property and emphasized that residents should definitely call 911 when observing any criminal activities.
2) An assault was reported on the 2100 block of N. Bingham on July 1st.
3) 2106 N. Bingham has seen an increase in criminal activity, including potential gang activity as reported by residents. There has also been late night drinking and loitering at the property. Shootings have also been reported causing broken car windows both in front and behind the property. Due to this criminal activity, several residents on this block will not participate in the upcoming Bingham block party - there are many kids on this block that parents do not want to expose to potential violence. Drinking has been happening erratically on Fridays and Saturdays. SGT Reyes mentioned that the police have made many attempts to contact the tenants of this property with little success. The alderman's office has also been notified.

SECTION 2 (Borders: Rockwell, Lyndale, Western, Milwaukee)
1) Congress Pizza – There was no representative of Congress Pizza in attendance. SGT Reyes reported that there were no issues reported at this property.
2) A representative from Concord Music Hall was in attendance and had no issues to report. 
action: Residents are strongly urged to call 911 to report any illegal patron or employee behavior at businesses along Milwaukee Ave.

SECTION 3 (Borders: Rockwell, Fullerton, Western, Lyndale)
There were no issues reported in this section.

SECTION 4 (Borders: California, Fullerton, Rockwell, Milwaukee)
1) Children and adults continue to play late night basketball beyond public park hours at the Goethe Elementary School playground. Residents living near the playground have been calling 911 to try to disperse the individuals from playing basketball between 11pm and 2am. PO McNamara and PO Komo is aware of the problem and he and other officers have been trying to patrol the park after it is closed to stop the basketball playing.
2) Residents also reported transients behind Bubbleland on Lyndale Ave. sleeping on mattresses and sometimes sleeping inside the front gates of private property along the street. A resident reported that one of the tenants of a property on Lyndale was leaving his property in the morning and was surprised by a homeless individual sleeping on his front porch who also happened to have drug needles discarded next to him.

SECTION 5 (Borders: California, Logan Boulevard, Rockwell, Fullerton)
There were no issues reported in this section.

SECTION 6 (Borders: Rockwell, Logan Boulevard, Western, Fullerton)
1) "Two Six" and "OM" graffiti was reported at Rockwell and Fullerton, 2457 N. Campbell and 2527 N. Artesian. District intelligence officers are interested in seeing the graffiti - if possible, email the 14th District Community Policing department (CAPS.014District@chicagopolice.org) with these photos. Also, residents are urged to call 311 to get the graffiti removed to prevent further tagging on top of it from rival gangs.
2) During the last few weeks on the 2400 block of Artesian, residents have reported that there have been many large trailers from construction crews building new houses in the area that are using valuable street parking several hours a day and sometimes overnight. Not all of these trailers have license plates or permits to park on the street in this area. It is illegal for them to park there and residents are urged to call 911 to have them ticketed.

Neighboring BEAT 1432 Key Reports
1) A representative from the former Dolphin Street night club – now re-opened under the new name of "Rio Chicago", however, still remaining under the same ownership of Sam Menetti – was in attendance and police had not issues to report. The representative briefly explained the new concept of the nightclub and emphasized that security will be increased to help rectify it's recent negative impact on the community and to "bring peace." There will be thorough screenings performed on patrons entering the club including bag and wand checks among others, and there will be a "no tolerance" policy for any aggressive behavior.
