Our Beat 1431 suffered 43 property crimes last month, up 5 from the previous month, according to the Citizen ICAM from 1/1/2006 through 1/26/2006.
Officer Trempe shared a story of an arrest at the Currency Exchange at N. Milwaukee and Damen involving the arrest of a criminal from Mongolia collecting money for counterfeit Super Bowl tickets he was selling on eBay. He was arrested with close to $10,000 in cash. This international crime is being investigated by Interpol.
SECTION 1
1) Infamous neighborhood criminal J.J. has been seen the past month at problem property 2062 N. Bingham.
2) Cobras gang graffiti went up twice at Stave and Francis and has been seen elsewhere in the section.
3) Criminal activity has remained dramatically low for the second consecutive month. The cooler temperatures are still considered the main reason the criminal activity is down.
action: Bingham and Stave streets remain a consistent area of reported criminal activity and require continued police attention and calls to 911.
SECTION 2
1) The parking contract between the Congress Theater and Chase School apparently has been reviewed by Alderman Flores and there have been no further incidences reported of parking on school sidewalks.
action:Police and residents to monitor parking practices at Chase during Congress events. Report problems with Alderman Flores' office.
SECTION 3
1) The police answered numerous calls to Danny's Liquors over the past month regarding criminal gang and disorderly activity.
2) A 14 year old male was arrested for graffiti at 2416 N. Western. His tag is "SLUR" and this is the second time he has been arrested for vandalism. He is known to live on the 2700 block of Artesian.
3) During the night of January 9th, a resident reported her pedestrian garage door was kicked in. Apparently nothing was stolen and the perpetrator apparently left through the overhead door which was left open.
action: Danny's Liquors continues to struggle with homeless and gang activity. Residents should remain alert to property crimes. Call 911 to report any suspicious activity.
SECTION 4
1) During the late afternoon on a past Friday, gun shots were reported near Goethe Elementary School at Belden and Maplewood. Gang activity was witnessed starting at Goethe Elementary at Belden and Talman and progressed east to where the gun shots were reported.
2) A garage door on the 2500 block of Talman was kicked in during a Sunday afternoon. Nothing was reportedly taken.
3) Goethe Elementary School diagonal parking on Talman between Lyndale and Medill continues to be a sanctuary for late night drinking in cars and littering.
action: Police and residents to continue focused attention on gang activity in this area. Residents are strongly encouraged to call 911.
SECTION 5 & 6
1) For the second month, gang graffiti at Altgeld and Washtenaw (MLD AW) continues to be a major problem in these sections.
2) Latin Lovers appear to be loitering frequently.
3) Street lights on Rockwell have been out again. This was reported at last month's CAPS meeting and it seems to be a consistent problem that may be related to criminal tampering.
4) There has been suspicious loitering near Campbell and Altgeld and there have been rumors that an individual on house arrest is currently residing at that location. These rumors could not be confirmed.
5) Again, more graffiti was on the Kennedy expressway viaduct.
action: Police to investigate Rockwell street light tampering. Graffiti and gang activity continues to be a blight in this section. Residents should continue to call 911.
