BEAT 1431 CAPS
Meeting Minutes
January 8th, 2004

The next meeting is scheduled for February 5th, 2004, 7:00 pm at the 14th District Chicago Police Department, 2150 N. California.

Officers Present: PO Doyle from Community Policing, SGT Giambrone, PO Romero, PO Retamozo, PO Schweiger (new night watch officer?)

SECTION 1
Tonight there was a congregation of 10 individuals in front of 2062 Bingham which seems to be a recurring hot spot for drug activity and loitering. 2-3 weeks ago Disciples and Cobras shooting.
Red minivan with Indiana plates 45E126 seen circling that block of Bingham and has been seen involved in criminal activity and reported to police.
action: officers to follow up on activity check on red minivan, report on their handling of this problem area next meeting.

SECTION 2
Graffiti at Belden and Maplewood. There is concern that a new gang called the Latin Players are moving West of Western into Beat 1431.
Beat officers commended on handling of disruptive loitering at 2206 N. Campbell.
Week ago near Palmer and Maplewood (?) shootings between MLDs (Maniac Latin Disciples) and Spanish Lords, officers mentioned arrests were made.
action: maintain diligent watch on 2206 N. Campbell, apparently 2nd floor tenants are involved with the Disciples.

SECTION 3
Reported mugging of young male shortly after retrieving cash at ATM. Apparently the thieves are still at large and descriptions indicate that they are not known criminals in area.
action: officers to follow up with any new information on this mugging next meeting

SECTION 4
Observed cuffing of 2 young males at Belden and Washtenaw, but no record of any arrests made on that date.
Graffiti on Caballeros De San Juan at Fullerton and Washtenaw.
Officers had no further information on Talman shooting death in August.
action: Officers to report gang activity in section. Officers to follow up with any new information of Talman shooting next meeting.

No further information on Derek Tate murder.
action: Officers to follow up with any new information on Tate murder next meeting.

General Announcements

Advised against warming up cars with keys in car unattended during cold weather. Consider adding keyless remote controlled ignition or similar devices that can discourage theft.
When out walking, especially at night, try to walk on well-travelled, well-lit streets with a friend and carry at least one cellphone.
